Updated August 2026. A cheap impact-window bid is usually missing a permit, an approval number, or a crew that will still be around after the storm. Ask these eight before you sign. Statewide Windows & Doors answers them in writing on the estimate.

1. Are you licensed for this work in Florida?

Impact openings are structural. Ask for the license number and check it on the Florida DBPR site. Statewide’s certified specialty contractor license is SCC131152028. If they cannot give you a number, stop.

2. Does the estimate include permits?

Permits are not optional on replacement openings in most Florida cities. The bid should include permit, inspections, and who is pulling them. If they ask you to pull the permit yourself, get another bid.

3. What is the product approval on the actual windows?

Ask for the Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval (FL#) that matches the sizes and design pressures on your house, especially in HVHZ (Miami-Dade and Broward). Brand names are not approvals.

4. Are the installers in-house or subcontractors?

Either can be fine. What matters is who is on the job, who is insured, and who warranties the labor. Ask for that in writing. “Our guys” with no names is not an answer.

5. What is the timeline, including lead time?

Measure to install is not one week. Ask for: measure date, order lead time, install days, and what happens if a unit is damaged in shipping. Weather and custom colors add time. Get a range, not a wish.

6. How do you protect the house during replacement?

Floors, furniture, and old-unit disposal should be in the scope. If it is not written down, you will be vacuuming glass and hunting a dumpster.

7. Can this job use My Safe Florida Home or other funding?

My Safe Florida Home is accepting applications again as of this update. Grants have product and contractor rules. Do not assume every impact window qualifies. Ask the company to say which products on your bid are eligible, and which are not.

8. What design pressure does this house need?

Design pressure (DP) is the wind load for that opening, height, and exposure. A contractor who cannot explain DP for your address is guessing. The window has to meet the opening, not the brochure.

What a complete bid looks like

  • License number
  • Permit in the price
  • NOA or FL# on each system
  • Labor warranty and who performs it
  • Opening prep (including waterproofing on CBS)
